What's The Deal With Dogs Riding in a Yellow Cab Or UBER?

Updated: Nov 19, 2024

New Yorkers love their pets. They travel with them, take them to the vet, doggie day care and groomer, the airport, and even the Hampton's

There are so many reasons why there is a need for pet transportation.

The beauty of taking a yellow cab or UBER is that they usually arrive in minutes. The bad news is that you don't know what you are getting. Sometimes the drivers are not dog friendly and they drive off refusing to take the pet due to size, breed or they just don't want a dog in the car. Even if they take the pet they will try to charge for dog hairs, pee or smell. This can be a problem for many people who need a guarantee that their pet will be picked up and taken to their appointment. Not to mention, the added surcharge for dog hairs can do damage to a person's budget.

Pet Cab NYC was created by JoAnna Levenglick who could not catch a taxi with her 60 pound dog Tosca, a Bracco Italiano. This was in 2017 when the company was conceived and launched in 2018 in Manhattan. The business was launched for pets only but at the time there was no transportation for people and their pets. In October of 2019 UBER had launched UBER Pets and the NYC Yellow cab followed in offering pets in the cab. At this moment PET CAB NYC has moved in a direction of doing what it was originally set out to, which is pet only. PET CAB NYC has successfully established as a pet only business doing long and local trips. This may include a trip from the Upper West Side to the AMC, Brooklyn Cobble Hill to doggie day camp in Chelsea. Long trips may include to the Hamptons from NYC, Nantucket, Palm Beach Michigan. When you use a yellow cab or UBER they would never pick up or drop off the pet without the owner in the car. That is fine for many New Yorkers who prefer to just get somewhere fast and who may not care if their dog has to sit on their lap or on the floor. Smaller dogs who are in a bag can sit on the seat as long as they don't touch it. To be clear, PET CAB NYC still has clients who insist on riding in the car and they are people who have been with the business for years. Those folks who get frustrated if a car picks them up 8 minutes late is not for us. Those people should use a Yellow or UBER service. Pet Cab NYC is a luxury service designed to make life easier for the pet owner.
