Owner of Obese Dog Nuggi in New Zealand Gets 2 months in Prison for Causing His Obesity and Death

Nuggi lived in New Zealand and was reported weighing 118 pounds . At the end of his life could not even walk more than 10 meters. It was reported that the vet could not even hear his heartbeat with a stethoscope, due to the sound not being able to penetrate his fat. He had a very hard time standing and often times his legs would collapse when he tried to get up. Once the SPCA stepped in and removed the dog from his owner, Nuggi lost about 16 pounds, but he did not get in shape fast enough. Nuggi died in late July, 2024 from a ruptured mass on his liver. The cause of his obesity was blamed on his owner for feeding

too much food. His owner fed Nuggi 10 pieces of chicken each day, plus kibble and treats.

The owner was sent to prison for two months, fined $1222.15 and told that she had to wait one year before she could own another pet.
